Alright, I paid for 2 prereg tickets on friday for my wife and I who will be trying this game out for the first time. There was no place, however, to attach who we were to the payment. Where can I do that and as new players, what steps should we take to make this a smooth transition into game time?

Hello and welcome! We should have your names via paypal, but just in case send an email to logistics@kyranthia.com with your names and any other questions. If you haven't already, create your character at kyranthialarp.com/Character_Creation.htmlDownload the rulebook at kyranthialarp.com/Rules.htmlIf there's anything else we can help you with, just ask!

Ok, we'll start off easy. The alchemy skill gets you one chosen recipe and one random one. Do you get to find out the random one before choosing one?
How common are the crafting resources in game? Can one expect to craft 1 item a game or 10?
The rule book says weapons are to be coated in duck tape. Is that a hard rule or are cloth/silk covers acceptable?
If you have a skill, do you still need a teacher to sign off on it or can you teach yourself more levels?
Finally, if you are just spending skill points to learn skills (10 exp), how is there still a variable cost past character creation?
Finally I'm having a lot of problems because of the human authentication captcha's. Is this a common problem?

Finally, if you are just spending skill points to learn skills (10 exp), how is there still a variable cost past character creation? Finally I'm having a lot of problems because of the human authentication captcha's. Is this a common problem? Alchemy components are relatively common, but there are a ton of different ones. All other components are somewhat rare. Leather, metal, wood, gems, MW paper, MW ink, you will NOT be able to make 10 of anything a game unless you figure some creative way to get components. The easiest way to get components for leatherworking and smithing is to get items from monsters or other players and take them apart to get some of the components back to make new items. Not to discourage you of coarse, crafting skills can be a lot of fun. If you already know a skill you can just buy more uses of it. Skill cost is dependent on your class. Aside from skills that cost more as you buy more uses (only a couple like that exist), skill cost will always be the same. I never had a problem with the capthcha but I think a couple of people mentioned it on the forums before. I think you get your alchemy recipe at check in, but I honestly don't remember. It's one recipe out of hundreds, or maybe thousands though. I haven't seen and cloth covers, so I can't answer that question. I hope the other responses I gave you were helpful though. ~James

Cloth covers are acceptable, but all weapons will still need to go through a safety inspection.

How does the improvised weapon work? Obviously you can't actually swing a chair at someone,is it basically just used to keep using your boffer after a weapon shatter?
Why are there both Skill Points and Experience Points? Can you do something with Exp that you can't with SP, or is it basically just a way for someone to be rewarded 1/2 an SP?

i believe for the improvised weapon,if you have a boffer safe mug/chair/table leg etc etc then you could throw/swing it and it will do damage.

You would use your own phys rep. Xp is used for a given for a number of things; npcing other games, event report cards, helping clean up or set up and donating to the game.

If you ended up with the same random alchemy recipe as you chose, you would be allowed to choose again, or we'd pull another random one for you. I thnk that's what you asked.
Welcome to the game. If you are looking for training in alchemy or cooking, find Pachamama. She is an old alchemist goblin witch, scary to look at but very kind so don't be fearful of approaching her if you find her before she finds you. She is often at the Drunken Dragon Tavern on a Friday eve, greeting newcomers and old friends. If you are interested in Herbalism and related stuff, find her grandaughter Red on Saturday morning. Red can be found where food and drink are - she serves food to make money for drink. She'll show you where to look for wild things, in the woods or otherwise.

Good to know Brenda, thanks.
The spell cure light wounds, the incant says heal 2 but the description says it heals 1. Which is it?
Mana potion 10. Do you need a different recipe for each mana type, or is it just one recipe?

Cure light wounds heals for 2 light. This can also damage undead but its a touch only spell.
The recipes I believe are all different.
