It's used to make tusks. They are originally used for jewelry making, I believe.

We are also playing with the idea of monetary donations. Something along the lines of $1 = 1xp. What do you think?

I have mixed feelings about cash donations.
From the GM side, extra cash on hand is always a plus.
From a player perspective, I'm torn:
One on hand, I would love to start out with extra skills just by sending some extra cash your way; it's much less hassle and far less time consuming than trying to make stuff.
On the other hand, I can remember being a poor college student (with barely enough money to play) going to games where players had a lot more "advantage" just because they had money. I remember being very angry because they never had to "earn" their extra skills, they just "bought" their way in. That was kind of a major turn-off for me at the time....
...I guess it partly depends on your target audience.

Here is my take on the issue;
As someone with some extra cash I would love to help the game out by buying things the game needs however, I have little o no free time to actually go out and purchase said items. I know that some people my have both the time and cash but, do not know where to purchase larp items, not everyone is either lucky enough to live next to the Halloween Outlet or Boston Costume or be possessed of sufficient levels of google-fu to find items online, for these folks I it as an opportunity to contribute in an OOG way to a game they enjoy while still receiving an thank you. In addition to those who have time but do not have cash, there is always a case to be made of crafting items for a game or spending extra time on set up and take down to earn extra points. However, I do get uncomfortable with the blanket notion of just buying points. I have been to another game that has found an interesting way of tackling this problem. Rather than just selling points they sell "raffle tickets" each raffle ticket you buy comes with an extra point and the prizes are all in game items (extra coin, potions, scroll, a big prize would be a minor magic item, etc.). In addition this game institutes a spending cap. I for example have well over 100 points banked at this game that I can not yet spend because I have reached the spending cap but, these excess points may be spent to acquire other things like IG items or a bonus to a special plot or what not.
Just some food for thought.

That game had a radically different cost for skills. Base headers cost 20 points. Some skills cost 50-100 points in certain headers so it's not a perfect conversion. 1 point in this game is more like 10-20 points in that game.

The max would be 500xp (50SP) per season.
